Welcome to the Hawaii Longline Association Website
The Hawaii longline Association was formed for the purpose of advancing the common interest of induviduals and entities involved in the offshore fishning industry in the Hawaii-Pacific region and to promote participation and input by industry in fishery conservation and management plans.
HLA has been involved in many aspects of the longline industry. In the beginning, we saw the need to educate the public to the economic and social benefits the longline fishery brings to Hawaii. We did this by hiring a public raltions firm who spread our cause through the media. Our members also helped by showing solidarity at public meetings and at the courthouse streps. HLA has been represented at public marine functions from Haleiwa to the Aloha Tower to the First International Fishers Forum in New Zealand.
Today, HLA is a thriving association with over 200 members including 120 voting members.
